KID LIT FOR HAITI: Hello Bookclubs!! Denise Vega is donating a set of 8 books to use for a book club or classroom—auction winner’s choice of a set of eight copies of one of the following:

ACCESS DENIED (and other eighth grade error messages),
ROCK ON (a story of Guitars, Gigs, Girls and a Brother)

The books may be hardcover or paperback, depending upon author’s stock. Author will ALSO include either unit plans (for a classroom) or discussion questions (for a book club).

CLICKHERE (to find out how I survived seventh grade) was the 2006 Winner of the Colorado Book Award and bestselling title in the Scholastic Book Club.  This book is loved by readers and librarians alike (check out the rave reviews on Goodreads!) Imagine if all your personal thoughts about crushes, fears, enemies, and even kissing practice ended up on the Internet for everyone to read. That's what happens to Erin Swift when her super-secret blog and all of her musings on navigating the treacherous waters of seventh grade--including her feelings about herself, her best friend Jillian, her crushes, and growing up--are accidentally uploaded for the whole school to see!
Written with warm, knowing humor, this story perfectly captures seventh grade life.
(Fiction for readers 8-13)

Computer whiz Erin Swift is ready to start eighth grade. The Year of Humiliating Events (aka, seventh grade) is behind her and she's ready to rule the school. But eight grade comes with its own set of problems for Erin to navigate, including her first boyfriend, her first break-up, and the fact that her mom has been treating her more like an eight year old than an eighth grader. Even worse, there's a new girl at MollyBrownMiddle School who is determined to remake Erin in her bad-girl image, and former crush Mark "Cute Boy" Sacks has been acting strange lately.

But as Erin's school year once against hurdles toward disaster, a personal tragedy forces her to realize that things, and people, aren't always as bad as they seem. Can she save what's left of eighth grade before it's too late?

FACT OF LIFE #31: Winner of the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult fiction, Cybil nominee. Fact of Life #129: Some people put you where they want you to be, not where you actually are.16-year-old Kat Flynn believes in going with the flow. She practices yoga, works with her mom at Abra’s Midwifery, and watches the Perfect Couple in the hall at school. But when she finds herself in the middle of the Perfect Couple’s drama and some drama of her own (including an unexpected romance), Kat has to decide whether going with the flow is really the best way to come back to herself. (Fiction for readers 8-13)
Colorado Book Award *  Colorado Authors League Award       “… Told in Kat’s passionate voice, this coming-of-age novel, with its romantic subplot, snappy dialogue and strong secondary characters, will appeal to fans of Sarah Dessen.”  —  KIRKUS REVIEWS…

ROCKON:  Ori Taylor is the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the Band To Be Named Later, a garage band he started with his friends. After years of being known only as the kid brother of sports star Del, Ori is looking forward to stepping out of his older brother's shadow, learning to perform in public, and rocking the Battle of the Bands contest. Oh, and maybe finally working up the nerve to talk to a girl in person instead of just over e-mail. But when Del suddenly returns from college, he expects Ori to step back into his role of little brother, just when Ori is starting to come into his own.

With his confidence wavering, will Ori be able to overcome his stage fright and lead the band to rock glory? Will the Band To Be Named Later ever get a real name? Will their best performances remain in the garage? (Fiction ages 12-17)

Denise Vega's deft exploration of brothers, bands, friends, and crushes promises to have readers tuning in page after page, because among all the ups and downs of being a teen, one thing's for sure: We all just want to rock on.

Denise Vega

Denise Vega earned her undergraduate degree at UCLA and graduate degree at Harvard (I love bragging on behalf of Denise, since she never brags herself). She served as the RMC SCBWI Co-Regional Advisor for a decade where she not only organized our group of writers and illustrators (and avoided cheese at all costs), but she also taught many writing workshops.

I first purchased a Denise Vega book out of sheer love for Denise; now I purchase Denise Vega books out of sheer love for her writing! In addition to middle grade and young adult titles, Denise also has the following picture book titles:
Grandmother,Have the Angels Come (Little Brown Books for Young Readers, 2009)
Build a Burrito A Counting Book in English and Spanish (Cartwheel Books, 2008)
And coming soon:
If Your Monster Won’t Go to Bed (Knopf/Random House, Spring, 2017)
And…(we’ll let you know!)
