Kim Tomsic: I’m a reader, writer, dreamer, believer, and lover of peanut M-n-Ms. My publishing heroes including Richard Peck, Bryan Collier, Ingrid Law, Meg Medina, Kate DiCamillo, Rebecca Stead, Nicola Yoon, Laurie Halse Anderson, Christina Soontornvat, Eliot Schrefer, Dianne White, and others! How my publishing career unfolded: It started with a love of reading. Next, I wrote a manuscript, joined the SCBWI, and a critique group. I read blogs, craft books (on plot, character, and structure). I attended conferences, hosted writer gatherings, subscribed to Writers Digest (and won a contest!). I wrote articles and studied craft. Five years later, I landed my first book deal!—dreams do come true! My debut book, The 11:11 Wish released in 2018 with HarperCollins. My debut nonfiction picture book, GUITAR GENIUS (illustrated by Brett Helquist), released in 2019 with Chronicle Books. The 12th Candle came next (HarperCollins). The Elephants Come Home hit bookshelves in 2021 (illustrated by Hadley Hooper) and has been internationally published and named to more than nine state reading lists! Comic artist, Mark Parisi and I co-wrote The Truth About 5th Grade (HarperCollins). It's on shelves now.
