SCONESAND SENSIBILITY (Egmont 2009)

Scones andSensibility (Egmont 2009) stars a delightful yet meddling main character named Polly. Her resume includes (a) daughter to bakery shop owners, (b) Jane Austen’s biggest fan, (c) romance enthusiast (d) 20th century wannabe, and (e) self-appointed town match maker.  Polly sets out with good intentions and wild plans to provide love and romance to the needy citizens of her small shore community. But she ends up creating chaos to the point that the police become involved.  As the back of the book states, “When Polly learns the pitfalls of playing matchmaker, will she be able to patch up relationships while making sure that love can take its course?”  It’s a question to which any reader will have a fun time discovering the answer.

            Scones andSensibility is packed with a cast of interesting characters including Jack the Nipper, the kite shop owner and Clementine, the older sister. But Polly won my heart with her throw-back ways. She prefers not getting bogged down in the world of iPhones and Wired Magazine, and instead loves the simple life of silk ribbons, doilies and romance books. Polly is no Patti (as in Patti Stanger (the Millionaire Matchmaker), but she’s well on her way! (Readers ages 9-12)

Lindsay Eland is the Co-Regional Advisor for the Rocky Mountain Region of the SCBWI and truly one of my favorite people on the planet, Earth. After reading her first book, SCONES AND SENSIBILITY, I knew I wanted her as my mentor. As you can tell by reading my book review posted way back in 2011, I love Lindsay’s writing. And you will, too. It’s why I’ve purchased both of her books over and over as gifts for my relatives.

KID LIT FOR HAITI:  Lindsay is donating a critique of the first ten pages of a middle grade or YA novel.

Lindsay Eland is the Co-Regional Advisor for the Rocky Mountain Region of the SCBWI and truly one of my favorite people on the planet, Earth. With mentorship from Lindsay, my writing finally improved enough to get an agent—Lindsay helped (and helped and helped!) me critique my manuscript, until I got that yes!

She will never kill an insect unless it is in her shower. Rainy days are her favorite. Lindsay gets easily sick in the car, on airplanes, and swinging on swings. She has her nose pierced. Making people laugh is the best feeling in the world to her. She love, love, loves to sing and still does ballet, even though it's in her living room. Lindsay has an affinity for chicken fajitas and homemade chocolate chip cookies...though not at the same time. She adores anything chocolate (hold the nuts please), and she's only had long hair once in all her 30 years of life (she was able to keep herself away from scissors for about eight months).”
