It was a newspaper sweeps morning. I thought I saw my friend Megan (who is also my daughter's mentor),on the cover of today’s newspaper (Life & Arts section). Reading the title: Oscars at Altitude” made me realize the photo is actually a picture of Megan’s sister, Sarah, producer of "Precious Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire". Megan and Sarah are Boulder locals as is Louie Psihoys (The Cove) and both films have nominations (best picture, best documentary film, best actress...) in the 82nd annual Academy Awards. Megan says she'd really love to see Gabby (Gabourey Sidibe) win tonight. "If people knew how witty and intelligent Gabby is in real life, they'd understand what a stretch it was to accomplish acting in her leading role in 'Precious.'" Tonight, Mateo restaurant in Boulder is celebrating our local celebrities: Sarah Siegel-Magness, Gary Magness (Precious), and Louie Psihoyos (The Cove) in a red carpet Oscar bash event with a big screen TV and five star cuisine.
But that's not all; I said it was a sweeps morning...turning to the Local section of the Daily Camera, I discovered a piece on my daughter under Student Spotlight. She was interviewed regarding her Capstone project and the money she is raising for Haiti.
